Here lies the body of this world,

Whose soul alas to hell is hurled.

This golden youth long since was past,

Its silver manhood went as fast,

An iron age drew on at last;

‘Tis vain its character to tell,

The several fates which it befell,

What year it died, when ‘twill arise,

We only know that here it lies.

- from the Epitath on the World, Henri David Thoreau

From flesh to metal: leaving this world behind is an exhibition that emerges after the end. Coming from Peru, a country with a serious political crisis since 2016 and now recently with an economic crisis that do not allow to see a future within the collective imaginary, this exhibition is an invitation from the other side of the world to rethink the present and imagine the future. This new future reimagines the human body as a machine that tries to survive by adapting to its new environment, progressively mutating while at the same time configuring and questioning elements related to ruin, labor, exploitation, biological processes, and death.

The discursivity and intensity inherent to the object, elements that detonate with the material, evidence of the process of use they have had, the wear and tear from their production, use and disposal create a relationship with birth, life and death. Objects perceived from the tactility, layers of skin, microscopic views of fragments of new speculated organisms, having a reading of the material in relation to the body.

For this exhibition, five Peruvian were brought together to address different themes directly or indirectly related to the “post-human” and the different edges that cross this concept. The exhibition will include installation, sculpture, and wall works.
